HEED - CANE WEAVE SERVING SET

Cane weave, a traditional craft technique, is seen as a new trend on modern object design and furniture design. Combining the old and new, cane weave product can bring a new possible us.

Heed are a series of cane weave table top serving products. On the classical table top serving, it's linked the traditional craft with the modern form. And it brings the cane weave trend from the furniture to our serving table.

BACKGROUND

The tabletop objects are quite classical products. Even the recent trend is occupied by minimalism, I still think we need to start to bring some old and opposite elements into it. How to balance the old and new, classical and modern is important. I decided to keep bringing some old elements into these modern form trends and created a new series of 2020 tabletop serving objects.

“How about combine cane weave and tabletop serving?”

DESIGN PROCESS

Nowadays, cane weave element are a new design trend on a lot of different products. Bringing this old technique combines with modern form, it can create the conflict between old and new and form into a unique style. How to use this material and combine it with modern design table top serving products is a new challenge?

INSPIRATION

Inspired by cane weave furniture, I decided to use the dark color frame to contain cane weave in order to highlight the dichotomy of the old and new, modern and classical.
